February 25 – 27, 2010
New Theatre Institute of Latvia, Riga, Latvia
Organised by New Theatre Institute of Latvia and Prague Quadrennial
Scenography Expanding 1: On Spectatorship is the first in a series of three
international symposia, conceptualized as enquiries into contemporary research on
performance design and space. In the next three days, designers, curators, directors,
choreographers, visual and media artists are presenting and discussing current modes
of spectatorship. Looking at diverse scenographic, directorial and curatorial strategies
in engaging audiences to embrace new and hybrid forms of viewing and participation,
On Spectatorship proposes a transdisciplinary reflection on the negotiation of space
and performative practice toward the reframing of traditional notions of the visitor, the
listener, the audience and the spectator.
