International Festival of Contemporary Theatre Homo Novus is a bi-annual event organized by the New Theatre Institute of Latvia. The festival is an essential part of Latvian performing arts scene as it is the only regular international theatre festival, which has contributed to development of new theatre and has raised new audiences loyal to contemporary performing arts. The festival aims to present the established, as well as emerging artists and their work, to provide a lively platform for exchange and creation. Each festival offers a diverse international programme of contemporary theatre, dance, circus, film selected according to the theme of the particular year, as well as series of workshops, lectures and debate. This year the festival will present six works from the Intersection installation as an integrated part of the festival’s programme, which will look at contemporary catastrophes, both small and intimate and large and spectacular. The costume and puppet performance by fashion designers mareunrol’s pictures sometimes catastrophic, sometimes funny situations of cohabitation with the neighbours. Scenographer Monika Pormale builds a monument to all the professions and crafts nowadays not needed anymore. Young set designer Reinis Suhanovs dedicates his installation to the perplexed Latvian and European identity of today. Interactive works by Romeo Castellucci and Hans Rosenström look at the catastrophes possessing human body and soul, while tragic, comic, everyday moments from people’s lives are presented by photographer Bohdan Holomiček on visitor’s request.
