February 25 – 27, 2010
New Theatre Institute of Latvia, Riga, Latvia

Organised by New Theatre Institute of Latvia and Prague Quadrennial

Scenography Expanding 1: On Spectatorship was the first in a series of three
international symposia, conceptualized as enquiries into contemporary research on
performance design and space. During three days, designers, curators, directors,
choreographers, visual and media artists presented and discussed current modes
of spectatorship. Looking at diverse scenographic, directorial and curatorial strategies
in engaging audiences to embrace new and hybrid forms of viewing and participation,
On Spectatorship proposed a transdisciplinary reflection on the negotiation of space
and performative practice toward the reframing of traditional notions of the visitor, the
listener, the audience and the spectator.
